GENDER AND POLITICAL PARTICIPATION IN EAST KALIMANTAN GOVERNOR ELECTION 2008–2018

This study aims to promote the participation of women in gubernatorial election. Gender issues remain an essential source inequality political since men are more politically active than findings various studies. As second highest ranking Human Development Index nationally, it is surprising that (GDI) East Kalimantan Province ranks third lowest Indonesia. one GDI’s indicators, women’s participation, particular, election, object. The election head region has so far been marked by a lack women, while their politics for gender issues, family welfare, children protection and wellbeing, education, as well healthcare. absence candidates governor or vice-governor was studied terms four aspects i.e., voting, campaign, discussion, contacting perspective. used qualitative research method with data collection conducted via interview. revealed that, based on results, contact discussions were limited among activists, general, still voting form participation. Religion belief influencing factors criteria. Additionally, personal relation, closeness, native candidate some criteria voters considered. patriarchal culture common Indonesia caused it. In conclusion, can be enhanced financial support, dissemination equality propaganda instead culture.
